I think the one that predicted my next interview would result in a job was pretty damn sweet.

Speaking of, I rocked on my first day today. I'm definitely going to like it here. I'd forgotten what working at a private doctor's office was like. He stops working at 12:30 to go attend to patients at the hospital, so the rest of the day is dedicated to paperwork. A rep is coming to provide us with lunch tomorrow. I have Monday off as a paid holiday. I haven't had a paid holiday in four years. Jackson closed the clinics down, then docked our personal leave for it as if we chose not to work those holidays.

The staff is great, the doctor is terribly sweet, and I have my own desk, since I'll be assuming the roll of office manager in about two weeks. Maybe less if I keep up the pace at which I've learned everything. By the end of the day I was fairly proficient at their programs and had already fielded several calls on my own. The doctor loves my smile, the accountant loves that I can fix the fax, and the girls love my adorable little bento box lunches and my selection of teas and honey sticks. I loved everything, especially my lack of hospital teal scrubs and the fact that I didn't have to run to the lounge every time I needed a drink of water.

Oh, to be treated like an employee that actually matters!

Edit: And one more thing -- Chiller's having a Forever Knight marathon on my paid holiday!

What mistake made in your youth do you most regret now?

View 504 Answers

Pointing out to my father that my mother's brain damaged and not entirely responsible for her hateful and insane behaviour. He was just telling me he was going to leave her. I inadvertently discouraged him and gave him a coping mechanism to help ignore her. It's one of the few things in my life that I really and truly regret. I should have just kept my mouth shut and let him make his escape.

Empty parking garages, roadside motels, dark caves, dank basements, overgrown forests—what kind of setting makes you feel nervous?

Malls, crowded spaces, parties, intimate conversations.. Get the idea?

What was your favorite fairy tale as a child?

The Hobbit. I read it over and over as a kid and have a beautiful addition of it now. Star Wars was also a favourite fairy tale, if I'm allowed to use movies.

Using disgustingly stinky, harmful chemicals when just a few natural household products and some elbow grease is all it really takes. Everyone knows I extoll the virtues of baking soda, vinegar and some hot water.

How long could you survive on your own in the wild?

View 500 Answers

I had a dream once that I went out camping, some wonderfully endless state park or something, and I got lost. DJ and Lori called the authorities, frantic not because I'd gotten lost but because they knew there was a very real chance I just might decide to never come home. Forget surviving the wild, I think I could live out there for a while.

In other news, tomorrow I have to do three charity runs -- Goodwill, the Humane Society, and a non-perishable food run. Right now I'm still a tenuous member of society.

Over the past ten years, many friendships have started and/or been renewed on LiveJournal. Of your current LJ friends, who have you known the longest?

View 500 Answers

The absolute oldest friend I have on LJ is [info]rizen. We actually met in Rhy'Din on AOL years and years ago and pretty much stayed in and out of touch the entire time. Next is [info]mwenyekischaa. We played Rhy'Din at the same time and vaguely knew each other's SNs, but we didn't actually start talking until we started simming in an ST plot, also on AOL. [info]asianmuse is also from around that time period, plus I also knew her from the atheist chats, where I also met [info]floatingwhisper, [info]lady_flame and [info]grandfromage. But the oldest friend I actually made on LJ is actually [info]midnightmadness, who friended me just weeks after I'd joined LJ. I didn't know at the time that LJ was actually in its infancy.

It's the full moon today. Almost every culture has its share of lunar lore, from werewolves to lunacy to true love. Do you believe that the full moon affects our behavior or do you think it's a myth?

Tonight's not just a full moon, it's the largest full moon since 1993. Normally the full moon does not affect me, though I do take note of it. Tonight, though, I'm full of anxiety and nervous tension. But, hey, my dad's home and comfortably in bed, so it's all good. Penitenze agite!

German has a word for everything, like ohrwurm. Translated literally as "earworm" in English, it's the word for songs that get stuck in your head and won't go away. What earworm of a song do you most dread burrowing into your head?

The themesong from Buckaroo Bonzai. Oh, yes. In fact, this question made it rear its ugly head and it's overriding Ghost Hunters at this very minute.

Bram Stoker, author of Dracula, and Vlad the Impaler, the original Dracula, have the same birthday. Coincidence?

View 500 Answers

Of course it's a coincidence, duh. That said, I recently read a brief article about Celtic vampire mythology that mentions the dreach-fhoula, pronounced droc'ola, which means "bad" or "tainted blood." In modern times it's taken to mean a blood feud or even a location, but older translations connect it to a type of blood-drinking Sidhe or daoine maith. This may have contributed to the title Dracula and the character by the same name.

One of the highlights of going to a literary festival is hearing authors read from their own works. What author, living or dead, would you most like to hear read?

View 500 Answers

Oh, the list goes on and on. Stephen King and Michael Crichton are obvious answers, as they were quite recently mentioned in my journal. John Keats, Lord Byron, Jules Verne, Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle join that list. I'd jump at a chance to hear Dr. Michio Kaku and Michael Jecks. Projecting into the future, one day I'd like to hear D and DJ read from their own books. And, with any luck, one day some of you guys will be snickering at me while I read exerpts from mine.
